About My Therapy
What makes my therapy unique?

My original background and training was in Psychodynamic and Object Relations psychotherapy which emphasizes our early childhood development within our families of origin.  As the field of psychology and my professional training continued to evolve, my emphasis has expanded to include an existential and a relational approach that embraces the importance of both our early and our current love attachments.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy enables me to include all that I have learned throughout the past 22 years in my work with couples.  Most importantly, it is backed by 30+ years of research on real everyday couples over the lifespan from newly together through retirement.  The theory embraces what makes relationships work vs. what make relationships fail.  The tools are designed to strengthen the areas that enhance relationships, while eliminating the things that are proven to destroy relationships.  I use a dyadic approach and ask couples to talk to one another, so that I can hand them the tools to successfully complete the conversations they need to have.  This dyadic approach works more quickly toward the goal of couples being able to work things out at home as opposed to in my office.

Incorporating Gottman Method, I bring my own style of warmth, empathy, directness, and skills I have developed from working with folks from all walks of life.  I let you know who I am, what I think and feel, and tell you why.  I ask my couples to help in establishing goals for the therapy based on their assessment results.   During the assessment phase as well as the treatment phase, I am open to feedback, both positive and negative, so that the work that needs to be done can succeed.   As we finish our work together and begin to taper our sessions, I give tools and suggestions for relapse prevention and maintaining the positive changes you’ve made during the course of treatment.

Making the choice to work with me using Gottman Method Therapy may be the best investment you’ll ever make in creating and sustaining satisfying relationships over the remainder of your life.

*Relationships are my passion….*
